About the Department

                 “Literature Reflects Life. Literature portrays the trends society which keeps moving based on the needs and values of life. Studying literature makes the mind imbibe “ethical values” as it depicts characters in books. It provides aesthetic satisfaction which cultivates aesthetic sensibility. There is an essential need for moulding the younger generation for meaningful co-existence and harmony. At the same they are to be trained employability. As most of the students are from rural background our department takes strenuous efforts to make them be successful.
               
             In 1969 B.A degree course in English Literature was started with minimum number of students. In 2007-2008 an additional section. Shift-II was introduced M.A degree course in English with 17 students was started under self-financing Scheme in 2005-2006.It came under regular stream in the academic year 2007-2008. The sanctioned strength of PG degree course is 20. The department has been elevated to research level in 2012-2013 offering Part & Full – Time Ph.D. Programme. Now there are three scholars doing their research work.
