About the Department

Government College for Women(Autonomous), Kumbakonam, started in 1963 was the second government College for Women in the state.  In this College, the Department of Mathematics with B.Sc degree course was started in 1967.  Initially it was affiliated with the Madras University and from 1982 it was affiliated with the Bharathidasan University.

The Department was enhanced with the PG course in 2003.  Already it had seven posts and in 2007 it was sanctioned with four more posts.  In October 2013, the Department has been promoted as the research department with two research guides and four research scholars.
